Orthodontics can seem overwhelming in the early stages. When beginning orthodontic treatment, most patients ask Dr. Cox and Pridemore and our team various questions about what they can expect during treatment. The two most common questions we frequently hear are “Will my braces hurt?” and “How long will these be on?”

We explain to our patients that despite what they may have heard, your orthodontic appliances will not hurt when we first put them on. Yes, it’s normal to experience soreness around the gums and jaw after getting braces when the teeth begin to shift. Often, our patients hear horror stories about how much it hurts to get the braces on, so they tend to over-worry. However, after the braces are on, almost all patients are surprised because orthodontics is actually easy and painless!

What to Expect

At Pridemore and Cox Orthodontics, we answer your other questions during your initial exam. We can give you a time estimate of how long it will take to achieve your ideal smile. At the bonding appointment when we place your braces, we can answer additional questions. At this appointment, we can over all topics from eating to how to brush with braces.

But we also know that after your first visit, you will still have questions about your or your child’s treatment. Just know that we are always here for you. We pride ourselves on being thorough and always try to answer any questions or concerns you may have. As a patient, that’s one thing you never have to worry about. You will always know what’s going on throughout your orthodontic experience. Should you have any remaining questions after your appointments with us, contact us at any time!
